10 players you may have forgot played for the Detroit Pistons

Sidney Lowe
Many fans may not know that one of their older assistant coaches once played for the team. In the 1984-1985 season, Sidney Lowe played a total of 31 minutes over six games for the Detroit Pistons. For most other players this would not even be a footnote in their career. But after various successes and failures as a coach getting to come back and coach the team you once played for is a neat story.
After retiring from basketball as a player in 1991 Lowe immediately became an assistant with the Minnesota Timberwolves and became their head coach for one year for the end of the 1993-1994 season. He was then an assistant in Cleveland and Minnesota again before taking over as the head coach of the Vancouver Grizzlies and led them to at the time the franchises best record of 23-59. He was also part of their first season in Memphis before resigning early in their second season in the new market.
He returned to Minnesota to join coach Flip Saunders staff as an assistant and followed him to Lowe’s first stint with the Detroit Pistons, where he remained for two seasons. Successful seasons in the Motor City led to Lowe getting the opportunity to become the head coach at his alma mater NC State.
After early success, Lowe’s teams failed to make the NCAA tournament in five years and resigned before returning to the NBA. He would be an assistant with the Utah Jazz, the Timberwolves again and the Washington Wizards before joining the Pistons alongside Dwane Casey.
