10 players you may have forgot played for the Detroit Pistons
By Corey Rausch
Jameer Nelson
The second-shortest tenured player on this list was not a fan favorite while he was here, but Jameer Nelson was a solid NBA player. Nelson was a one-time All-Star in 2009 and played the first 10 years of his career with the Orlando Magic. In college, he won the Bob Cousy Award, Naismith Award, Wooden Award, Rupp Trophy and Oscar Robertson Trophy while helping lead Saint Joseph’s University to its best season in program history.
He joined the Orlando Magic in the same season a Dwight Howard, drafted 19 picks after the future-Hall of Famer. This is easily the most memorable stretch of the guard’s career, as he would be part of a team that made it to the NBA Finals. This was not without controversy as his return bumped Rafer Alston out of the starting lineup and in part led to their struggles against the Los Angeles Lakers in the finals.
After a number of stops, Nelson joined the Pistons at the trade deadline in 2018. This reunited with the coach, Stan Van Gundy, which oversaw the most successful stretch of his career. The team was in need of point guard help with Ish Smith and Reggie Jackson struggling with injury issues. It was not meant to be a return to form, however, and the team would be his last stop in the NBA after only playing in seven games.
