Current roster

As bad as the Wizards’ record would reflect, their roster is deep to an extent. They’ve got a starter and quality backup at almost every position, their one weakness being the center slot. It’s unclear who the starter is, making way for larger confusion on overall rotations.

John Wall, Bradley Beal, Jerome Robinson, Rui Hachimura, and Thomas Bryant represent what will most likely be the Wizards starting five next season on opening night. Behind them, you have Ish Smith, Troy Brown Jr, Isaac Bonga, Davis Bertans — barring a free-agent departure — and Moritz Wagner.

The defense this season has been atrocious. As of the hiatus, the Wizards have registered a 115.0 Defensive Rating per NBA.com, which would top the 1990-1991 Denver Nuggets as the worst defensive team in NBA history. Woof.

Whoever they do draft or sign in free agency this summer will have to offer some promise on that end of the ball. Simultaneously, adjusting its center position has to be the biggest priority. The draft may be the only place to do so, considering they’ve still got to resign Bertans with money already tied up to their backcourt.
