Chicago Bulls: Evaluating the Bulls as the team heads into the hiatus
1. All is not lost for the Chicago Bulls, not yet
We aren’t yet sure if this season will continue at some point, but even if it does, for all intents and purposes, it’s already over in the Windy City. The final 17 games were really about Coby White progressing into the future star he looks like he’ll become.
Still, it bears repeating that the team does have a talented core. While GarPax has struggled to bring in star free agents – like none – they have hit on some solid draft picks. With White and Daniel Gafford in 2019, they added to a nice collection of players.
There have been some bad moments, of course, but there have been some fun ones too. Who can forget that wild finish in Charlotte when LaVine hit 13 3-pointers in a Bulls win?
Now, whether this squad will ever learn what it takes to win consistently is another story.
With rumors of a front-office makeover in the works in the offseason, whenever that ends up being, there is still hope for this franchise. A shakeup in leadership from the sideline will probably be necessary for the team to see any actual on-court success. Boylen’s 39-84 win-loss record stings the senses a just a bit, and his penchant for deflecting blame isn’t likely to win favor with players or the fanbase.
This has been a strange 2019-20 NBA season and it’s been equally weird for the Chicago Bulls. Whether we see the Bulls on the court again this season or not, the work towards building another contender to Chicago is sadly still in the beginning stages.
