The Brooklyn Nets entering their final stretch of games this season have roster decisions to make for next season. Who still has something to prove?
With the recent firing of head coach Kenny Atkinson, the Brooklyn Nets have accelerated their transition from rebuild to championship contention. The next coach of the team will be tasked to win immediately in the pursuit of the franchise’s first NBA title (or will be whenever the NBA returns from its current hiatus). The superstar duo of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant will be tasked to lead the way.
After stunning the NBA this past summer by acquiring both Durant and Irving, the team’s expectations were bound to change. The last three seasons have been a rebuild and after making the playoffs for the first time since 2014-2015 the team is making serious strides to compete for an NBA title.
Durant, Irving, and DeAndre Jordan will be on the roster at the start of next season, but the rest of the roster is up for debate. Players are one thing but the question remains, who will coach the team next season?
The Nets will more than likely give interim head coach Jacque Vaughn a look, but other popular candidates like Jeff Van Gundy, Mark Jackson, and Ty Lue will be heavily considered.
For the last four seasons core players like Spencer Dinwiddie, Joe Harris, Jarrett Allen, and Caris LeVert have made their marks in the NBA by taking their game to the next level. With just over a month left in the regular season and a playoff berth on the horizon, these players will need to play well to solidify their spot on the roster for next season.
