Phoenix Suns: 10 stars you forgot played for the Suns
By Jono Perilli
#6: Michael Redd (2011-12)
It’s really hard to look at the photo above without cringing, especially knowing how long Michael Redd destroyed as part of the Milwaukee Bucks prior to his stint in Phoenix.
After a successful and prominent career in Milwaukee, Michael Redd has cemented himself as one of the best shooters in the Bucks’ long history. From 2001 to 2009, Redd was a pure killer when it came to shooting. His history apart of the Bucks wasn’t necessarily successful, but individually, he carried the team. Redd was one of the most loyal players at the time, staying close to the city and there was no end in sight for the talented scorer.
That was until an ACL and MCL tear in a game against the Lakers in January 2010. The injury would leave Redd out for the rest of the season, and it would be in March 2011 when he’d make his return, playing only 10 games.
It was only on December 29th, 2011, that Redd would sign a contract with the Phoenix Suns. The forward would make a slight improvement considering his injury status, averaging 8.2 points per game in 51 out of the 66 games. Since this was a lock-out season, it was a fair amount of games played compared to the average 82 game season.
It felt odd seeing Redd in a Suns jersey, which was a case similar to Patrick Ewing‘s stint in Seattle or Tony Parker’s season in Charlotte. It felt weird watching someone who’s so known for his tenure in Milwaukee that seeing him in a different jersey felt outer-worldly.
This season would be his last one in the NBA for Redd, who was struggling with injuries. He would retire in November of 2013, ending his tenure in the NBA on a good note.
Typically, fans forget Redd’s run with the Phoenix Suns, especially since he’s more well-known for his eleven years in Milwaukee.
