6. Dick Garmaker (1955-60)
Another Minnesota basketball legend who played for the Lakers before the franchise moved to L.A., Dick Garmaker made four All-Star Game appearances in four and a half seasons with the team.
Garmaker was born and raised in Hibbing, Minn., and went on to play for the University of Minnesota, where his No. 53 jersey is retired. He was a territorial draft pick by the Minneapolis Lakers and spend most of his pro career there.
After a modest rookie season, Garmaker broke out in Year 2. He averaged 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game in 1956-57, beginning a streak of four straight All-Star nods. He was also Second Team All-NBA that season.
Garmaker helped the Lakers to two Western Division Finals and the 1959 NBA Finals. They lost to the Celtics in a series in which Garmaker averaged 19.3 points per game, third on the team behind Elgin Baylor and Vern Mikkelsen.
