Chicago Bulls: 3 reasons Coby White is a rising star
3. The bright lights and big moments don’t scare him
It hasn’t all been glamorous for the former North Carolina Tar Heel. It’s actually been a typical rookie season for White. He didn’t evade the rookie wall and has been brutally inconsistent at times.
After pouring in a then-career-high 28 points in a win over the Charlotte Hornets in November, in his next five games, he scored 37 points. Total. White went scoreless (shooting 0-7 from the field) in a December 9 matchup with the Toronto Raptors, then scored 19 points two nights later as the Bulls defeated the Atlanta Hawks only to score 10 points combined in his next four games.
It hasn’t been easy for the Chicago Bulls third consecutive seventh overall draft selection. For teenagers entering the league, it rarely is. He has even skipped over for the NBA Rising Stars contest during All-Star Weekend – In Chicago.
What makes Coby White special, though, is his flair for the dramatic. He’s not afraid of any opponent, nor the bright lights and the big moment. He’s fearless driving through the lane and doesn’t pass up big shot opportunities.

Obviously, we cannot overlook the back-to-back-to-back games of 33 or more points. In his last eight games, White has exceeded 20 points seven times. The game he didn’t score 20 points? He put in 19 points in a Chicago Bulls win over Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
When the kid catches fire, he’s tough for the opposition to extinguish.
