Toronto Raptors: 3 best things from 2019-20 season so far
2. The winning streak
Prior to this season, the Raptors had never won more than 11 games in a row in franchise history. That came back in January 2016. They also did it towards the end of the 2017-18 season.
This time around, the Raptors blew by that number, winning a now-franchise record 15 games in a row. The streak helped the Raptors break away from the Eastern Conference pack to emerge as the true No. 2 team in the conference.
It started innocently enough on January 15 with a hard-fought win at the Oklahoma City Thunder. The next three games were against cupcake opponents: the Washington Wizards, Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks. A 12-point win over the Philadelphia 76ers had people starting to take the Raptors more seriously, though.
After tying the 11-game record in Davis’ star-making win over the Bulls, Toronto set their new record with a tight win over the Indiana Pacers, paced by 32 points from Kyle Lowry. Toronto then won in Indiana, against the Brooklyn Nets and in D’Angelo Russell‘s Timberwolves debut to extend the streak to 15.
It finally came to a halt on the road in Brooklyn, where the Raptors succumbed to the Nets, 101-91. Since then, the Raptors are 4-3, trying to regain some of their footing.
But Toronto has won the last two – perhaps another streak is in the making.
