By Tony Pesta
The Cleveland Cavaliers have had plenty of odd-ball players suit up for them over the years. Here are 15 stars you forgot played in Cleveland.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been celebrating their 50th NBA season all year long. Some great names have suited up for the franchise throughout the decades and it’s time to reflect on a few star players who suited up for the Cavs.
In their 50 years as a franchise, the Cavaliers have an overall record of 1,865-2,167. This gives the organization the 7th lowest all-time win percentage of all 30 NBA teams.
However, they have avoided being one of the 12 franchises to never win a title. The Cavaliers made history in 2016 by being the first team to mount a 3-1 comeback in the NBA Finals to bring a championship to the Land.
The big three of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love led the way for Cleveland in this trophy run but some iconic veteran names like Richard Jefferson and J.R. Smith were vital to their success as well. These two have solidified themselves in Cleveland’s history. What about the other veteran stars who played for the Cavs?
Despite never being a prime landing destination for the league’s best players, the strength of James helped bring in all-time legends and borderline All-Star players, most of whom were nearing the end of their careers.
A majority of the players on the list were gone just as quickly as they joined the roster. They were either traded for different assets, left in free agency at the season’s end or retired altogether.
It’s hard to imagine any star free agents joining the team anytime soon now that James is seemingly gone for good and the Cavaliers are one of the worst teams in the league. So, let’s reminisce on 15 players you may have forgot played in Cleveland.
