3. The Lakers lock the No. 1 seed, then rest everyone

Contrary to the LA Clippers, the Lakers haven’t exactly engaged in “load management” at all this season. That might change as we get closer to the playoffs, to ensure maximum physical capabilities for the chase for the ultimate prize.

The Lakers are now sitting on a record of 47-13 and are on pace to have the fifth-best record in Laker history. This is an accomplishment that speaks for itself given the gravitas of this historic franchise.

Many people have the Lakers winning 65-plus games until the end of the season, though something like that is very unlikely to happen. This shouldn’t worry Lakers fans all too much, though, as they have been blessed with a positive-record team for the first time in 7 years.

As they are now 5.5 games ahead of their cross-city rivals, the Clippers, the first seed in the Western Conference seems like it’s in the bag, with less than a quarter of the regular season to go. Maybe it’s time to start resting the key players a bit even if it means failing to hit the 65-win mark.

James, Davis headline some of the names that have gotten hit by the injury bug recently, thus making their physical preparedness for the postseason, priority number one for the team.
