As the Minnesota Timberwolves fall once again out of playoff contention, we’ll take a look at three reasons to continue keeping an eye on the rest of their season.

It feels like months since the Minnesota Timberwolves traded for point guard D’Angelo Russell.

Mainly because in his presence, they’ve gone 2-7. Not too inspiring.

But at the same time, it’s difficult to fault Russell, who’s joined on Minnesota by way of the Golden State Warriors; a franchise that is unexpectedly in the same boat this season.

And it doesn’t help that Karl-Anthony Towns has yet to play with his new point guard, as he’s out with a wrist injury.

What is safe to say, is that these Minnesota Timberwolves will not be making the playoffs. As of Wednesday morning, they are now 12 games behind the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies.

Tankathon.com has the Timberwolves schedule as the 14th-hardest going forward. They’ve still got the Los Angeles Lakers (twice), Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, and Utah Jazz to play.

And yes, Russell has played well, but he’s also one of five new additions to Minnesota. That kind of player turnover is always going to lead to losses, but maybe less, in a different scenario.

As the season winds down, and fans come to grips with another losing Timberwolves season, the engagement and views may go down. But they shouldn’t.
