Double overtime thriller against the LA Clippers

On February 13th, the Boston Celtics played host to the Los Angeles Clippers for a wild night at the TD Garden. What was so great about this game was that it was a true test to see how good the Celtics really are right before the All-Star break. This double-overtime thriller was one of the best games the C’s have played during the first half of the season.

In a game where the bench didn’t offer much of a helping hand, this game featured all five Boston starters scoring in double figures, including three players scoring over 20 points (Tatum: 39 points, Smart: 31 points, Hayward: 21 points). Smart would even go on a 10-0 run all on his own that included two steals before the first quarter even ended.

There was a lot of give-and-go from the Celtics in this game. This was the game that everyone involved realized that making the extra pass and moving the ball around the court proved to work for the C’s. Walker and Smart were able to take hard drives towards the paint and then kick the ball back out to one of their shooters behind the arc. The team finished the battle with 22 total assists.

What really stood out in this game was the accuracy from behind the arc as a team. The Celtics shot 18-of-43 (41.9 percent) from the 3-point line, which was the highest for the team during the first half of the season. Usually, one or two players will get lucky from behind the arc. But in this game, the Celtics had four of their starters make at least three or more of their 3-point shot attempts.

Along with minimal production from the bench, the Celtics were also without the services of Jaylen Brown in this game and they still found a way to walk out with the victory. When a team is clicking on all cylinders like the Celtics were in this game, it is going to be extremely hard to maintain composure and keep the score within a close range.

Tatum: 39 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block

Smart: 31 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals

Hayward: 21 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 1 block

Walker: 19 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists

Theis: 12 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 blocks
