Kelly Oubre Jr’s Break Out Season

Always an underrated athlete, Kelly Oubre Jr. was finally given the spotlight this season, becoming a cult figure. He proved himself to be a two-way force this season. Whether it was slamming it down on the fast-break or making a clutch jumper, Oubre was quickly becoming a great sideshow for the main attraction. It was noticed that whenever either Devin Booker or Deandre Ayton were having poor nights, Oubre is the one to step that role of the main scorer.

Oubre was quickly outlined as his role as an enforcer, a slasher who could roam and attack at will. He quickly became a highlight-reel, throwing down dunk after poster dunk. He’d also make a great impact on the defensive end as well, plucking away the ball at a consistent rate.

But it wasn’t his consistency that was outlined, it was his improvement. He improved dramatically on the defensive end, becoming a force in the paint and on the perimeter. So good of an improvement that made Oubre a suitable contender for the Most Improved Player award.

But unfortunately, Oubre took a huge hit, suffering a torn meniscus in his right knee, most likely sidelining the plucky forward for the rest of the season.

His season was fantastic though, becoming an impressive staple point for the young Suns roster. Realistically, he should be in their plans for the future, but things can happen in the NBA that hurt to see. It would be hard to foil the momentum the Phoenix Suns have coming into next season, tumbling out of an eventful season.
