NBA: Re-grading the Luka Doncic, Trae Young trade
By Nolan Jensen
Final thoughts:
Though both players are on their own, distinct career trajectories—the comparisons will never end.
Doncic has had more team success than that of Young thus far, but that can be attributed to multiple reasons that are not necessarily under Young’s power. Under Rick Carlisle, one of the better coaches of his generation, Doncic is spawned into an NBA world of stability. That isn’t a luxury many get to enjoy.

The Mavericks have a well-rounded team around Doncic, but that isn’t also to undermine the offensive talent that he is. Both parties benefit from the fit.
With Young, he’s growing up alongside the Hawks. They may have underwhelmed this season sitting at 19-43, there were those that had them penciled in for 35-39 wins, but they’ve started to find some rhythm as of late—winning four of their last six contests.
Plenty can change in terms of supporting casts and how either team fits within the dynamic of the NBA once it inevitably changes with stars moving around as frequently as they do.
Ultimately, a winner will always need to be crowned despite if both players’ situations are tailored-fit for their skillset. So with that being said, the winner, thus far, is still the Dallas Mavericks. Is that subject to change given Young’s brilliance and Reddish’s upside? Of course. But for now, hand the Mavs the belt.
