The San Antonio Spurs, who played their last two games last week without injured LaMarcus Aldridge, picked up a much-needed win, holding on to beat the Magic after Bryn Forbes scored five straight points to give the Spurs the lead in the final minute, with Forbes avoiding the goat horns when Evan Fournier missed a fast-break layup for the lead with 2.2 seconds left.

With the win, San Antonio remained a half-game behind New Orleans in the Western Conference. The 10th-place Spurs are three games behind the Grizzlies for the eighth spot, with an NBA-record 23rd consecutive playoff berth on the line.

DeMar DeRozan carried the load in Wednesday’s loss to the Mavericks with 27 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in 34 minutes and in three games last week averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 dimes and 5.3 boards in 30.1 minutes a game, shooting 47.5 percent and missing his lone 3-point attempt.

Last week: Lost to Orlando 115-113, lost at Washington 110-106, lost at Atlanta 141-118, lost at Miami 116-113

This week: Tuesday at Boston, Wednesday vs. Memphis, Friday vs. San Antonio

The Brooklyn Nets were the only team in this week’s NBA Power Rankings to move more than one position, dropping two spots the old-fashioned way … they earned it. An 0-4 week was capped off by running out of time Saturday night at Miami.

Joe Harris‘ 3-pointer with 11.4 seconds left cut what had been a nine-point deficit with 2:44 remaining to just one, but the Heat held on for the win. The 0-4 skid dropped the Nets into eighth in the Eastern Conference, a half-game in back of Orlando and still 4½ games ahead of Washington — both teams Brooklyn lost to last week.

In a dismal week, Spencer Dinwiddie provided something of a bright spot with 24 points and 13 assists in the loss at Atlanta on Friday. For the week, Dinwiddie put up 22.8 points, 9.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 32.8 minutes per game. He shot 44.4 percent overall and made 36.7 percent on 7.5 deep tries per game.
