By Phil Watson
Last week: Lost at Toronto 127-81, beat Charlotte 119-80, beat Portland 106-100, won at Cleveland 113-104
This week: Monday at San Antonio, Wednesday at Milwaukee, Friday at Chicago
If you’re looking for the dividing line in the NBA, you’ve found it –the Indiana Pacers. As of right now, there are 13 teams in the NBA playing at .600 or better and 17 playing below .500 basketball. There really is not a middle class in the NBA at this point. It’s either really good teams or clubs that really aren’t good at all.
The Pacers have won five of six on the heels of a six-game losing streak to open February and got a five-game road trip off to a solid start with a win Saturday night at Cleveland.
All-Star Domantas Sabonis ran his string of double-doubles to five, including putting up 21 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists in the blowout of the Hornets on Tuesday. In four games on the week, Sabonis averaged 18.3 points, 12.5 boards, 6.8 helpers and 1.0 steals in 32.9 minutes per game, shooting 55.6 percent overall and making 1-of-3 from 3-point range.
Last week: Beat San Antonio 131-103, won at Chicago 124-122, beat Sacramento 112-108, lost at Milwaukee 133-86
This week: Tuesday vs. Clippers, Wednesday at Detroit, Friday at New York
The Oklahoma City Thunder had their five-game winning streak halted with emphasis on Friday, taking their worst loss since moving from Seattle in 2008 and matching the second-worst loss in franchise history with their 47-point pummeling at Milwaukee. It was the worst loss for the team since the SuperSonics absorbed a franchise-record 52-point drubbing at Denver March 17, 2008.
The Thunder will open a three-game Eastern swing on Wednesday after hosting the Clippers for the second time this season the previous night. OKC is 32-13 since Nov. 23, which is tied with Toronto for the third-best record in the NBA over that span, trailing only the Bucks (39-5) and Lakers (32-12).
Steven Adams isn’t getting a ton of opportunities at the offensive end, but he continues to make the most of them, averaging 15.0 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 25.1 minutes per game over the four games last week. He shot 73.5 percent from the floor and went for 16 points, nine rebounds, three steals and three blocks in Tuesday’s win at Chicago.
