Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 reasons to offer a max contract to Brandon Ingram
By Tony Pesta
The Cleveland Cavaliers should be doing everything in their power to acquire Brandon Ingram by signing him to a max contract this summer.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are the latest team to fall victim to Brandon Ingram‘s efficient scoring ability. Ingram notched 29 points on 11-19 shooting last night as the New Orleans Pelicans dominated the Cavs from start to finish.
This is the second time Cavaliers had a chance to witness Ingram in his breakout season as he scored 24 points in their prior matchup. At 22 years of age, Ingram is blossoming as one of the league’s brightest young stars.
Ingram has been on a mission ever since being traded to the Pelicans. He is averaging a career-high 24.7 points and is a favorite to win the Most Improved Player Award. His consistency has helped bring the Pelicans to the brink of a playoff berth.
Meanwhile, the Cavs are steadily working through a tough season. The squad has found little success throughout the year and has seen minimal improvements from their young core.
Cleveland currently stands with a 17-42 record and will be looking to retool in the offseason. Though the NBA Draft will be their main point of emphasis, acquiring new talent via free agency should be a priority as well.
It would take a bit of wiggle work but the Cavaliers could put themselves in a position to offer a max contract this summer. Ingram should be their top target if this is the case. Here are three reasons Ingram is worth the max.
