Hall of Promise

The most exciting of the three Pistons to enter the lineup at Denver was Donta Hall. Die-hard Detroit Pistons fans know that Hall has been impressive for the Grand Rapids Drive and did not waste time in endearing himself with Casey.

After playing four seasons with his home state Alabama Crimson Tide he went undrafted and played the Summer League with the Pistons.  He then joined the G League squad and immediately made an impact. Hall was named to the Midseason All-NBA G League team and he is reminiscent of a younger Andre Drummond. The numbers are not where these comparisons come from necessarily, but watching him tip rebounds to himself and the hustle of just jumping into lanes and disrupting everything.

Hall is raw and unrefined at this point but earned his spot through stellar play in the G League. Hall averaged 15.4 points, 10.5 rebounds and nearly 4 combined steals and blocks per game. If he continues to give the same level of effort that was seen in his debut he has a solid chance of being the future backcourt mate of Christian Wood. Unfortunately for Wood’s fellow Thin Tower member, this could also lead to Thon Maker not being brought back this summer.

This will not be decided in one game, or likely even the duration of this 10-day contract. The rest of this season and next season at a minimum will be about building the future and Hall has a chance to be a part of that future. Finding the bright spots in a dreary season is what Detroit Pistons fans have to look forward to. Hall, Walton and Thomas are just the newest examples.
