Khyri gets another chance
While Thomas as with the team last season, there is not much to take away from his time in Detroit. Over these two seasons, he has played in a total of 29 games, seeing only 214 minutes. At this point, he is as unknown as the 10-day contract guys.
When at Creighton he profiled as a prototypical 3-and-D type, shooting 41.1 percent from long range while earning Big East Defensive Player of the year in back to back seasons. So far, he has been eclipsed in that regard by fellow 2018 draftee Bruce Brown.
His production has yet to translate in the NBA due to injuries, but his limited time with the Grand Rapids Drive has been promising. In the G-League he has averaged 19.8 points while shooting over 43 percent from three. If this can translate in any way on the main roster the Pistons will have a find.
When Thomas was mentioned in deals starting at the beginning of season and into the trade deadline, many fans were nervous we would have another Spencer Dinwiddie or Khris Middleton on our hands. Thomas has the potential to be an impact player in his role in this league but has not been given the chance to prove it due to injuries and inexperience.
He only got 14 minutes in the loss to Denver, but as he is around the team more and earns Casey’s trust it will be interesting to see how that role increases. His time to earn his spot is now.
