The New York Knicks are over a year and a half through Kevin Knox’s young career and they are still unsure of his potential.

The New York Knicks selected Kevin Knox with the ninth overall pick during the 2018 NBA draft. Prior to his selection, the University of Kentucky Wildcat was known as a project based on his age and rawness to the game of basketball. What intrigued many teams before the draft (like the Knicks) was his length, ability to run the floor and his spot-up shooting.

Knox’s young career has been a bumpy ride so far, which has caused concerns for the New York Knicks’ organization and fans. At times, he has shown the capacity to be a successful player with his ability to shoot, drive to the basket, and provide some key defensive moments. The problem, however, is that it feels like it all comes together once in a blue moon. A major reason for his inconsistency this season is definitely because of the reduction of his playing time.

When comparing Knox’s two seasons, it has been more than noticeable that his minutes have decreased dramatically.

According to Cleaning the Glass, through Knox’s rookie season, he played a total of 2,089 minutes through 75 games, which is an average of 27.9 minutes per game. During his sophomore season, he has played a total of 892 minutes through 55 games, coming to an average of 16.2 minutes per game.

So what has caused this drastic change in Knox’s playing time?
