Improve 3-point shooting

The biggest area of need in terms of improvement for Hachimura has to be his 3-point shot. On the year he’s posting just a .241 clip, on not even two (1.8) attempts per game.

Improving his 3-point shot does two things. One, makes him a better player, and a more versatile threat on offense. But two, it makes Bertans more expendable in the summer.

If the Latvian Laser’s agent comes at Washington with a number they don’t like, that another team may have talked themselves into, the Wizards would be forced into a corner. Continuing to establish 3-point threats in guys that are returning next year, would be optimal.

And per Basketball Reference, of all rookies this season averaging 12 or more points, Hachimura ranks dead last in 3-pointers made (14) on the year. Obviously he’s missed 14 games, but the difference between himself and Tyler Herro (99) who’s at the top of the list, is pretty wide.

The Washington Wizards need 3-point shooting, in fact, it may be their offseason priority. Growing one within their current roster would only bolster their 3-point arsenal next year, and allow Hachiumura a more prominent role in the offense going forward.

The Washington Wizards will be focused on their postseason aims for the rest of the year, but should also prioritize Rui Hachimura’s growth along the way. Hitting even just two of these three goals by the end of the year would make for an even more successful rookie campaign.
