The Los Angeles Lakers have had so many great players in their past, a few may have slipped the memories of even some L.A. fans.
You’ll have to forgive the non-die-hard fans who can’t name every NBA star who has suited up for the historically talent-rich Los Angeles Lakers.
Even when they resided in Minneapolis, the Lakers have always attracted big names to their roster. Credit the consistent team success for the better part of six decades, quality front office work, a habit of landing franchise icons that other players want to play with, and (since the relocation) the ever-appealing “City of Angels” with all the off-court benefits that come with it.
Whether in free agency, trades or the draft, the Lakers have had a whole wing’s worth of Hall of Famers and All-Stars pass through the locker room at various stages in their careers.
A few of those stars had brief stints with the team that are easy to forget.
Other stars spent a short but still memorable time in purple and gold.
Two-time league MVP Steve Nash was limited to 65 games over two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2012-14. But because Nash came to L.A. as part of a highly-touted “super team” along with Dwight Howard — joining Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Metta World Peace — his tenure is still talked about.
Karl Malone and Gary Payton, both Hall of Famers, came to the Los Angeles Lakers as part of another much-hyped “super team” in 2003. Past their respective primes, they spent one season together in L.A. that ended in an NBA Finals loss. Like Nash, though, their abbreviated run remains a popular topic among Laker Nation.
The players on this list of forgotten stars have All-Star accolades, or they were at least All-Star caliber talents. Some were league leaders and champions elsewhere. Some are in the Hall of Fame. The time they spent in L.A., however, typically ended just as quietly as it began.
Here are 15 stars you might have forgot once played for the Lakers.
