Chicago Bulls: More opportunities for Coby White?

Coby White has had a productive first season with the Chicago Bulls with averages of 11.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

Yet while many of the top draft-picks have been starters from the jump, White has yet to earn a single starting nod this season. It might have even played a part in his absence from the NBA’s Rising Stars roster at All-Star Weekend.

At 19-36, the Bulls have an outside shot at the postseason with five games separating them and the eighth-seeded Magic. But even in the event of a surprise appearance, a first-round spanking at the hands of the Bucks would hardly do this team much good.

With the sixth-hardest schedule remaining, it’d probably be best for Chicago to ditch the playoff dream and focus on developing the player the organization drafted seventh overall to serve as the point guard of the future.

Inserting him into the starting lineup won’t magically elevate his level of play, but it is the next step in White’s development.

If the Bulls were smart, they’d get a head start as soon as possible to further ingratiate their rookie alongside a core they’re hoping can do some good in due time.
