Charlotte Hornets: A possible Malik Monk Revitalization
Malik Monk has been a disappointment for most of his NBA career since being drafted 11th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in 2017.
The 2019-20 season has been more of the same, with poor shooting percentages and less than 10.0 points per game, but he entered All-Star Weekend on a stretch of games that could spark something special.
Over Charlotte’s last 10 games, the third-year guard shot 38.1 percent from beyond the arc on 4.2 attempts to average 17.3 points along with 3.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists in just 28.0 minutes per game.
He’s up for a contract extension this summer as the Hornets attempt to figure out who’s worth keeping around in the early stages of their rebuild.
It’s tough to come to any conclusion after less than a month of encouraging production, but Charlotte still has 28 games remaining. If Monk’s improved level of play remains, he could be in line for a bigger contract and the Hornets could have another future piece in place alongside Miles Bridges and Devonte’ Graham.
