What to watch for from every NBA team in the second half
Detroit Pistons: Christian Wood’s development
After bouncing around four teams in just three years, Christian Wood seems to have found an NBA home with the Detroit Pistons, who have given the former undrafted forward a platform to improve his game.
The low risk has so far paid off for the Pistons, as Wood’s is averaging career-highs with 11.2 points on 56.5 percent shooting and 5.7 rebounds in just 19.1 minutes a game.
He’s made just five starts on the year, four of which have come following the deadline trade of Andre Drummond. Wood put up 20.0 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in that time and even flashed a 42.1 3-point percentage on 4.2 attempts per game.
Drummond is elsewhere. Griffin is sidelined for the remainder of this season with a future unfortunately in doubt. The Pistons have no choice but to build from the ground up.
Wood is the only silver lining for a fanbase with little else to invest in. Here’s to hoping Detroit treats him as such and throws everything into his development to finish this season and beyond.
