A Star is Born

The biggest offseason question for the Detroit Pistons current roster members is what happens with Christian Wood. After barely making the roster over Joe Johnson at the beginning of the season Wood has been a revelation.

He saw inconsistent minutes out of the gate as Casey made him learn the defensive rotations more and mature. Maturity was reportedly Wood’s issue in previous stops but he has clearly grown in the Motor City.

What his market is this summer remains to be seen, but it may be steep. Reports that the Rockets and Celtics called about Wood at the trade deadline prove that he is already garnering interest around the league.

The free agent crop this summer is lacking, but so is cap space.  The Pistons are one of the few teams with meaningful space, meaning they should be able to offer Wood the best deal.

Wood has been the true joy of the season so far and watching his developing chemistry with Thon Maker, another pending free agent, has been a blast since the Drummond trade.  The Thin Towers, as they have been called, have brought fun energy to some otherwise dreadful basketball games.  Wood will be looking for a deal this summer.

Fans can only hope it is the team that gave him his chance that inks him to that deal.
