Chicago Bulls: Will reported front office changes be enough?
1. A shakeup might be inevitable, but will it change anything?
Reinsdorf might finally be ready to make a few changes in the front office, including adding to the notoriously small scouting department. Perhaps the team does bring in a fresh, outside voice to shape a new narrative for the franchise.
But who would that person report to? Is John Paxson going to remain in his current role? Will Gar Forman continue on as a scout for the team? If a new general manager is brought on, would that person have final say over personnel matters or would Paxson retain veto power?
According to reports, the expected changes will not result in Paxson or Forman exiting the franchise.
If Paxson remains in his role and the new addition reports to him, it’s tough to expect much of a change. Will Chicago Bulls fans really have confidence that things will be different for their team?
The issue is, the Reinsdorf family is very loyal, often to a fault. How else to explain Paxson and Forman remaining in their roles for as long as they have? In any other world would a head coach with the record Boylen has continue to enjoy support from Paxson and his ownership group?
The Bulls should be an attractive franchise for an outsider. They have a talented, young roster with LaVine, Markkanen, Wendell Carter and Coby White. What they’re missing is a superstar face of the organization.
If the Chicago Bulls aspire to finally lure elite free-agent talent in 2021 and beyond (i.e. Giannis Antetokounmpo), change for the sake of change isn’t enough. They have to get this right.
This is a decision that could have ramifications for years.
For Michael Reinsdorf and company, there seem to be more questions now than answers.
