As we’ve reached the mid-point of the 2019-2020 season, who’s been the Washington Wizards MVP? Or Defensive Player of the Year? Let’s discuss this.

The Washington Wizards are headed into the All-Star break with playoffs hope still alive. They’re 20-33 and the Eastern Conference’s ninth seed, only three games back of the Orlando Magic.

But for now, all that talk is taking a break, as a few of the Wizards head to Chicago for the festivities. Davis Bertans competed in the 3-Point Contest, while Moritz Wagner and Rui Hachimrua suited up for Team World in the Rising Stars exhibition.

It’s been a long, exhausting, and at the same time refreshing season in Washington. The Wizards have had their fair share of injuries strike, as well as gotten lucky on more than one occasion.

Guard Bradley Beal, although not deemed so by the league, has played like an absolute All-Star. He’s the reason this team has hit 20 wins and is still playoff eligible at this point in the year.

Bertans has become one of the best 3-point shooters in the league. Ian Mahinmi has even experienced a renaissance year ahead of his free agency in July. And, despite injuries, rookie forward Hachimura is having as strong a rookie season as they come for a 22-year old.

It’s at this point, that team evaluation takes place, as the Wizards will be off for the next six days. And as a part of that evaluation, we deemed it appropriate to hand out midseason awards.

Nothing redundant like Coach of the Year or Rookie of the Year, but who’s been Washington’s MVP? Who’s held down the defense? Who’s improved the most from last season?

Let’s explore as regulation basketball takes a backseat to All-Star weekend.
