Memphis Grizzlies: The best young core in the NBA
By Jono Perilli
Dillon Brooks
Dillon Brooks has come a very long way from being confused with Marshon Brooks back in December 2018, but my goodness has Brooks been a scoring machine for the Grizzlies. After posting a silent but impressive rookie season, Brooks was forced to sit most of last season out due to a toe injury. The 45th pick in the 2017 NBA draft, that’s right he was a massive steal, has continued his scoring onslaught, becoming a key player for the Grizzlies.
Brooks is currently averaging 15.7 points per game, while shooting an impressive 41.3 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from the arc. Brooks has become a machine on the offensive end, despite being a defensive liability. Like most of the players on the Grizzlies, they aren’t perfect and all have room for improvement, including the golden boy, Ja Morant.
Brooks was involved in a bit of a stir prior to the trade deadline, calling out Andre Iguodala for sitting out the season. Brooks got the support of his teammates, such as Ja Morant. Brooks called out Iguodala, much to the questions of some fans, but at the end of the day, he’s not wrong at all. The fact that he was able to defend himself and his teammates, shows a huge amount of leadership from the third-year guard. The incident shows the trust and chemistry between him and his teammates, which is good to have for a young team such as the Grizzlies.
Brooks was also rewarded prior to the trade deadline by signing a three-year, $35 million extension, which is well deserved for his efforts this year.
