Memphis Grizzlies: The best young core in the NBA
By Jono Perilli
Ja Morant
Arguably the Rookie of the Year, Ja Morant has proved himself as one of the most defined and effective young players in the 2019 draft class, and he’s proving himself as a franchise player for the Grizzlies.
Drafted out of Murray State University with the second pick out of the 2019 NBA Draft, Morant is currently averaging 17.6 points per game while tallying up 7.1 assists per game. He’s also shooting an impressive 49.3 percent from the floor while hitting 35.8 percent from behind the arc.
Ja Morant is the cornerstone of the Grizzlies franchise, no doubt about it. But it’s Morant’s story to get where he is that’s inspiring. Morant wasn’t ranked in high school and his only NCAA Division One offer was from South Carolina, though he vouched to join division two team, Murray State. He worked way beyond belief to earn his spot in the NBA, and he’s earned a cult following.
Morant has become one of the most popular players, mostly because of his extraordinary highlights. His impact on the Memphis Grizzlies and his clutch mentality, has been the reason why the team have been impressive so far. He’s the hottest commodity in the NBA in this day and age, and the Grizzlies would be beyond clueless to give up on him.
