Boston Celtics: Top 10 games from the first half of 2019-20
5. 12/25 @ Toronto Raptors
Result: Win (118-102)
Ahh yes, the Christmas Day game. Where families gather together and join in on festivities, and even those who do not celebrate still enjoy their day. For Boston Celtics fans this past Christmas, they received an extra gift, but it didn’t come from under the tree.
It came from the Celtics’ thrashing of the Toronto Raptors, who were hosting their first Christmas Day game in franchise history. The Raptors came out hot and took a 10 point lead.
Once the Celtics called a timeout, they took the lead and didn’t look back, as evidenced by the one lead change throughout the duration of the contest (NBA.com). Boston limited turnovers in the contest, and played with a fast pace, forcing Toronto to try to keep up when it was evident they could not.
The hero of this particular game was Jaylen Brown, who just had his way with Toronto the whole afternoon. He scored 30 points in the game, and had some pretty memorable buckets, as well. He dominated the third quarter against the Raps, who are typically a stout defensive unit. People started to recognize Jaylen’s ascension to All-Star level in this game, too.
Granted, Toronto was missing some key players in the game, but it may not have mattered with the way the Celtics were playing that afternoon.
There was another quality win over the Raptors which could have made the list, but in an effort to keep 10 unique teams in the Top 10, this matchup was decided as the better of the two, specifically for the sheer domination displayed by Jaylen Brown.
