Boston Celtics: Top 10 games from the first half of 2019-20
Honorable Mention: 1/11 vs New Orleans Pelicans
Result: Wins (140-105)
Kicking off the wins is the blowout of the New Orleans Pelicans in Boston. This game could have been as high as nine, but it falls out of the top 10 for one reason only: Injuries.
The Pelicans were missing Jrue Holiday, Derrick Favors, J.J. Redick, and of course Zion Williamson. However, there is one specific reason this game makes the honorable mentions. That one reason is Jayson Tatum, of course. Jayson Tatum has had tremendous games all season long, but this one falls into the top three of his performances. If this was a list ranking his games alone, you’d see this near the top.
In this outing, Tatum scored a career-high 41 points in just 30 minutes of action. He shot a blistering 72 percent from the floor, and even had six 3-pointers. His defense was solid throughout, not letting his opponents get easy buckets. He played within the flow of the offense, and didn’t force anything for the most part. This was a game to remember for Tatum.
For the team as a whole, they were struggling before this massive win. Losses to the Washington Wizards, San Antonio Spurs, and Philadelphia 76ers had the team looking for its identity again. They hadn’t been a part of a three-game losing streak all season, so they could have dropped this one, but they showed tremendous fight on both sides of the ball.
Now that the honorable mentions have been…mentioned…it’s time to get into the nonofficial rankings of the top 10 Boston Celtics games from the first half of the season.
