New York Knicks: The post-trade deadline outlook for the Knicks
Safe Players
Barrett and Robinson would be considered safe because of their success in their early careers.
Barret has averaged 13.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 32.7 3-point percentage and a 39 field goal percentage per game. He has also shown the ability to have 20-plus point performances and has the energy to compete night in and night out.
The skills that Barrett will need to work on are his jump shot and free throw shooting. These are all skills that can be developed throughout his career. But for him to be that dangerous scorer that can be relied on every game, he will need his shooting to be a threat at all levels of the game.
As for Mitchell Robinson, this season he is averaging 9.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 72.8 field goal percentage, 1.9 blocks and .9 steals per game. He has shown improvement this year, and when he is not busy getting into foul trouble it is clear that he can be a defensive anchor for this team. Also, let us not forget that Robinson was selected for the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2019.
The one major improvement that is needed for Robinson is his ability to stay out of foul trouble. Especially since he is the only true rim protecting center on the team.
Both of these young players have a lot of potential, they just need to continue to develop. But as I said, based on their early success, they will definitely be kept around. Even Stoute, in his ill-advised statements, named these two players specifically which shows the impact they have already made.
