The players’ tryout

According to Ian Begley, Mills and Perry believed this team should be a playoff contender prior to the beginning of the season. Apparently, there was a team mandate to make the playoffs and players on these short-term deals would be evaluated on team performance instead of individual play.

However, this New York Knicks roster was not built for success on the floor, especially in the short-term. The way this team was built was for cap flexibility based on the many one-year and one-minus-one (a two-year contract with a team option in the second year of the deal).

But to be honest, this is a blessing since there will be new management and they will have the ability to make an imprint their first year.

If were to guess and categorize players as safe, fringe and moveable, then RJ Barrett and Robinson would be in the safe category. Randle, Frank Ntilikina, Kevin Knox, Damyean Dotson, Ignas Brazdeikis and Dennis Smith Jr. would be in the fringe category. Bobby Portis, Wayne Ellington, Reggie Bullock, Taj Gibson, and Allonzo Trier would be the moveable category.

We’ll break down each category and the players therein.
