13. The mighty Raptors’ offense

Over the course of the entire season, the Raptors have a fairly mediocre offensive rating. They’re scoring just 111.7 points per 100 possessions, which is solid but not elite by any means. In the past 15 games, that offensive rating is a spectacular 118.7. Their offense is essentially unstoppable, and while that is largely thanks to their incredible shooting, it’s also a result of the next point:

12. The art of forcing turnovers

These Toronto Raptors are truly rapacious with the ball on defense. Over the last 15 games they’re forcing turnovers an incredible 18.3 percent of opponent possessions. The difference between the Raptors in first and the Houston Rockets in third at 15.7 percent is the same as the gap between the Rockets and the 21st-ranked Atlanta Hawks.

11. Development

Ever hear of Terence Davis? By now, you probably have. Before the season began you most likely had never heard of the 22-year-old Ole Miss product. He was undrafted this summer and plays for the minimum. Not that long ago, Fred Vanvleet was another young undrafted player who made good.

The Toronto Raptors have a way of finding diamonds in the rough, or more accurately developing these hidden gems into these role players who end up taking the NBA world by storm. The Raptors don’t have lottery picks on their roster, but they don’t need them either. If you’re a hard-working youngster, Nick Nurse and the Toronto Raptors can make you an NBA player.
