Chicago Bulls: 3 post All-Star break hopes to finish the season
2. Coby White develops more offensive consistency
There’s been plenty to love about rookie lottery pick Coby White. He never shies away from big moments, always wants to take the big shot and well, he’s just fun to watch.
Actual results from White though? They’ve been a bit uneven. On the season he’s averaging 11.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists while playing all 54 games so far this season with Chicago. Remembering he’s still a teenager until February 16, White has been a nice addition in the Windy City.
He’s had some fun moments, with four games over 20 points, including a career-high 28 points in a win over the Charlotte Hornets in November. He also hasn’t scored over 15 points in his last 15 games.
There’s still plenty of room to grow for the former North Carolina Tar Heel. For example, he’s shooting just 37.2 percent from the field for the season. In only 11 games this season has White shot 50 percent or higher. In 26 contests, he has shot below 35 percent, 19 games below 30 percent. Out of 100 possessions, he has a -16 net rating. His player efficiency rating (PER) is 9.9 (league average is 15).
To say the least, these are alarming numbers.
Passed over for the Rising Stars game at All-Star Weekend, Coby White has plenty of sizzle to ignite the home crowd, but the substance isn’t always there. The hope is that the remaining 28 games give him the opportunity to establish some consistent performances down the stretch while establishing some confidence for the 2020-2021 season.
