The Boston Celtics had many players who could have been named to the All-Star team. Jaylen Brown got snubbed from All-Star consideration.

The Boston Celtics have had a successful first half of the season. The team is winning games, the chemistry is at an all-time high, and their fans have plenty of reasons to be happy about how the season has turned out.

With All-Star weekend right around the corner, the player results were released last week. We learned that Jayson Tatum will be heading to Chicago to represent his Boston Celtics for the first time as an NBA All-Star.

Making the All-Star team is a dream come true for any player. Unfortunately for Jaylen Brown, he has yet to have been able to make his All-Star dreams become a reality. Brown deserved recognition over Tatum this season.

Since Jaylen Brown signed his new four-year, $107 million contract extension at the beginning of the season, he has shown to be one of the best and most improved players on the Boston Celtics. He is also one of three players on the team to be averaging 20 points or more this season (Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum).

More from Hoops Habit

Brown is currently having the best season of his career, averaging 20.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this year. He’s taken on a larger on-court leadership role when guys like Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart aren’t playing.

There’s many factors that go into making the All-Star team. Some of the factors being is your impact on the team, how well your team is doing, and overall popularity. Although Brown isn’t as popular as Tatum, no one can discredit Jaylen’s influence on the Celtics this season.

Over his last nine games, Brown’s averaged 21.9 points per game while shooting 51.4 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from behind the arc, and has grabbed 5.6 rebounds per game. It’s also worth mentioning he has scored 20 points in six of those last nine games.

During the course of a game, you can see Brown being more communicative on the court in trying to help organize the guys on the floor to ensure his team is better positioned. We haven’t seen that from Tatum yet. What we see from Tatum is arguments with the officials over a potential shooting foul.

Although Jayson Tatum is worthy of being an All-Star, Jaylen Brown is able to impact a game in more ways overall than Tatum. You never know what to expect with Brown, he can shoot well and drive to the hoop while finishing with either hand; making him unpredictable and more challenging to defend.

With Tatum, you know what to expect when he has the ball. A player who shoots well and will drive through the lane on occasion. As a shoot-first type of player, he’s more one-dimensional in comparison to Brown.

Jaylen Brown also seems to be more relaxed and is having fun on the court. His energy is noticeably infectious and causes a chain reaction throughout the entire team. While Jayson Tatum is more stern and serious, he doesn’t let his emotions show in a game (other than frustration).

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown also have the same amount of highlight reel type of plays this season. All in all, not to discredit anything Tatum has accomplished this season, Jaylen Brown definitely deserved the All-Star recognition over Tatum this season.
