In the latest update, Washington Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard dismissed the possibility of John Wall returning this year.

The Washington Wizards have been without John Wall for nearly a year now.

And it looks like they’re going to have to wait a little longer.

Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard stated on Thursday that the team’s franchise point guard isn’t expected to return at any point throughout the rest of the 2019-20 season:

"“I think we have maintained that all along. We didn’t plan on seeing him this year. I think that’s fair to John, to manage the expectations for him,” Sheppard said. “He’s on his way, but he’s not there and he’s not close yet. He’s a lot closer than he was a year ago when the injury happened.”"

Wall, who had surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon back in February of 2019, has been the talk of a potential return for weeks now. Mostly due to the videos seen on social media of the point guard’s participation in practice. Wall can be seen dunking and moving freely.

But it seems that Wall will have to wait until October to retake the floor. And in the meantime, the Wizards continue to shelve responsibility on the shoulders of Bradley Beal, who signed a two-year extension back in November amidst trade rumors aplenty.

Wall last played for Washington in December of 2018, when he was putting together another career season. The point guard posted 20.7 points, 8.7 assists, and 1.5 steals in 32 games.

He will continue to support the Washington Wizards hunt for playoffs from the sideline, where Wall has been a positive voice and resource for a team that’s fallen to 17-32 on the year. That chase for the postseason will continue on Friday, when the Wizards host the Dallas Mavericks.
