The Charlotte Hornets could move Nicolas Batum‘s bad contract to match salary in an Andre Drummond trade. While it is clear nobody is willing to give up major assets for Drummond (as he remains in Detroit), it appears a team could look to use their leverage in a deal at the very end of the deadline.

In the proposed trade, the Pistons would at least get a young prospect and a second-rounder rather than Drummond walking in free agency for nothing. Charlotte knows Drummond could be a rental, but it at least puts them on the radar heading into free agency.

Perhaps Charlotte could look to trade for Drummond and wow him in effort to sign him to a long-term deal this summer. For all they know, Drummond may not even consider Charlotte unless they take a shot at him.

Andre Drummond is a great center in this league, but it doesn’t look like Detroit is going to get much of a return for him. Only time will tell if a team uses that to their advantage.
