The verdict
Both players have their pros and cons and of course, each team will draft based on a mixture of selecting the best player available and who would best fit the organization. That said, LaMelo Ball and James Wiseman could easily be No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3.
However, with perimeter play being such a necessity in today’s league, Ball should be the obvious choice.
Sure, the inefficient numbers are unappealing, but Ball’s playmaking ability and incredible game sense is hard to pass up on. Purely based on skill and game knowledge, he’ll be able to run an effective offense. With some professional experience in his past, his skills will only be exemplified.
Ball’s aforementioned skinny frame is worrisome, especially with Wiseman being more physically imposing at this age. Still, the game sense that Ball possesses is greater than the physical profile that Wiseman has. Physicality isn’t everything and can always be added over time in the weight room. Game awareness, on the other hand, can’t be taught. You either have it or you don’t.
