5. New York Knicks

Much to the chagrin of Twitter, the New York Knicks have been rumored to be interested in the services of Andre Drummond, according to Stadium’s Shams Charania. Since the initial report, though, it does appear discussions have stalled, according to the New York Posts’s Marc Berman.

The Knicks are the owners of the third-worst record in the NBA and do not have the talent on the team to surround Drummond.

They also have a roster which is loaded with big men. In no particular order they have Bobby Portis, Julius Randle, Taj Gibson, Mitchell Robinson and Marcus Morris. This has the effect of making them the 10th-best rebounding team in the league, first on offensive boards.

However, Drummond plays close to the hoop, he has little to no range on his shot. The Knicks as a team shoot the 3-ball at 34.0 percent. This is only good for 25th in the NBA.

This means that Drummond will be easier to double team as opposing defenses don’t have to worry about the perimeter as much when playing the Knicks. As a result, Drummond’s production will likely decrease.

One area that Drummond would certainly help this team is in rim protection. The Knicks currently are 22nd in the NBA with 4.5 blocks per game. This would not be an issue if the perimeter defense was good, but it is not. They are last in the league, giving up 38.9 percent from deep.

The other big problem for Drummond to the Knicks is that he is more than likely to opt out of the final year of his contract. The Detroit Pistons are going to want something good in return for Drummond and this means that the Knicks will give up something for essentially nothing. Drummond will not want to stay with a losing franchise he has no loyalty to.

Al in all, the Knicks are a poor fit for Drummond.
