Positives and negatives from Cleveland Cavaliers first half of season
By Tony Pesta
Neutral
These players haven’t managed to be overly positive or negative for the Cleveland Cavaliers this season.
Collin Sexton
The Young Bull is leading the team in scoring with a career-high 19.0 points per game, but has done more to hurt than help the Cavaliers at times.
Collin Sexton may be a skilled scorer, but he is heavily lacking in the playmaking department. He has turned the ball over a total of 86 times this season while only racking up 98 assists. Furthermore, he has has more shots blocked than any other player in the league.
There is no doubt that Sexton’s offensive skill set is a benefit to the Cavs but his selfish playstyle cancels out most of the positives that he brings. As a result, Sexton belongs in our neutral category.
Cedi Osman
Following a Rising Star performance in his first season as a starter, Cedi Osman has yet to make any significant steps forward in his development.
Osman is shooting nearly 40 percent from the 3-point line, but fails to make his presence felt. More often than not, you can barely tell Osman is in the game.
The Cavaliers either need to find a way to get Osman more involved with the starters or move him to the second unit where he will be more properly utilized.
Kevin Love
For a five-time All-Star, Kevin Love has not had much of an impact on the Cleveland Cavaliers.
This is almost certainly because of his energy level. Love doesn’t have much reason to compete at a high level anymore and his lack of enthusiasm is constantly showing.
In their rare moments that Love shows effort, he proves he is still capable of putting up star-caliber numbers. He has scored 30 or more points three times this season and has recorded 16 double-doubles.
In contrast, Love has also had nine games in which he attempted fewer than 10 shots. This is a direct sign of him not being fully invested in each game this season. It’s hard to place Love in either the positive or negative column when his performances range so drastically.
