3 Minnesota Timberwolves questions after Jeff Teague trade
By Ethan Becker
The Minnesota Timberwolves have traded point guard Jeff Teague to the Atlanta Hawks, per a report from Adrian Wojnarowski. What does this mean for a struggling Minnesota franchise?
Jeff Teague’s tenure with the Minnesota Timberwolves didn’t pan out how everybody thought it would.
Coming to the Wolves shortly after being on one of the best Atlanta Hawks teams in recent memory, the hype surrounding Teague was real. Even then, it’s fair to say that his play never really lived up to the hype.
Still, Teague was never a horrible player. He suffered on defense at times and his scoring left something to be desired, but the dude is still a passing machine and he’s a solid guard on any team.
But, in their continuous search for their next franchise point guard after Jonny Flynn didn’t pan out and Ricky Rubio was traded, the Timberwolves have moved on from Teague and most likely look to develop Jarrett Culver as an in-house guy and put Allen Crabbe (who was sent to the Wolves as part of a deal for Teague) as his backup.
But will this work? And how does this trade impact the Wolves future with no clear starting-caliber point guard?
Well, for starters, let’s look at the trade itself:
Now, articles about who won this trade have been done to death (as is typical after even semi-major trades), but that’s not what this is (check out that last link for a great article on that though!)
Instead, I’m going to be asking, and attempting to answer, the three biggest questions I’m left with after this trade. And you’re coming with me!
