4. Marcus Morris

Marcus Morris is all of a sudden a great shooter and having one of the best years of his career with the lowly New York Knicks. He’s been one of the few bright spots this season at Madison Square Garden. With the Knicks possibly in asset-acquisition mode, it’s possible the Sixers could convince them to release their grasp on Morris since he’s a free agent after this season.

New York has the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference and should be doing everything they can to gain draft picks and young players. Nothing has changed.

He brings a certain intensity to any team he’s on. A bruiser for sure, he won’t be pushed around and is willing to do whatever he needs to for his team and his teammates. In a playoff setting, those intangible energy attributes are valuable.

As mentioned, Morris is on an expiring deal, so he very well could be a one-year rental. He’s shooting 46.9 percent from beyond the arc on 5.8 attempts per game, a massive jump from his previous season-high of 38.1 percent.

Per the initial report from Berman, Morris loves being in New York and doesn’t seem to want to leave. This isn’t suprising given that he has been a strong advocate for defending the team and the culture since the start of the preseason.

The Knicks might keep him just because he’s loved by Knicks fans given that most NBA players on the upswing haven’t been kind to New York in recent years. Keeping a player that could yield you a few solid draft picks to jump-start a never ending rebuild would be a very Knicks thing to do.
