Revisiting LA Clippers high points from the 2010s
The making of Lob City era
The end of the previous decade for the LA Clippers was just terrible. They finished that season with a record of 19-63 and had drafted both Eric Gordon and DeAndre Jordan. Now, that kind of bad ending to the 2000s allowed the Clippers to start the decade with a No. 1 overall pick.
In the 2009 NBA Draft, the Clippers selected a quite successful college player in Blake Griffin. He ended up winning the Summer League MVP, but in the final preseason game the Clippers got a shock.
During the Summer League, Griffin averaged 19.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.0 steals on 50.0 percent from the field and a shocking 45.9 percent from the line.
It was soon announced that he would miss the entire season recovering from a knee injury. That is not a way to start off a decade.
So, once their No. 1 pick went down, they were led by Baron Davis, Eric Gordon and Chris Kaman to one of the worst records in the conference with 29 wins.
Speaking of Kaman, he was an All-Star reserve in 2010. I do not think many fans today even remember Kaman, let alone remember that was actually an All-Star. During his All-Star season, he averaged 18.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game on 49.0 percent from the field and 74.9 percent from the line.
It was disappointing to start the ’10s like that; however, next season was much different because of one player.
