Last week: Beat Milwaukee 126-104, won at Boston 129-114, lost at Memphis 134-121

This week: Sunday at Toronto, Wednesday at Miami, Friday vs. Atlanta

It was one of those weeks that makes an observer squint and shake their head a bit after learning the San Antonio Spurs blew out the Bucks and won at Boston before losing to … Memphis? But man did the Spurs have the offense cooking, topping the 120-point mark in all three games last week.

DeMar DeRozan used the three games as a subtle — subtle like a sledgehammer to the forehead — reminder he is a two-time All-NBA selection, averaging 30.7 points, 6.7 assists and 6.0 rebounds in 34.8 minutes per game. DeRozan was a white hot 64.0 percent overall while making 2-of-3 from deep and missing just once in three games on 9.0 foul shots a night.

Last week: Beat Brooklyn 101-89, beat Washington 123-89, lost at Phoenix 98-94

This week: Monday at Sacramento, Wednesday at Lakers, Thursday at Clippers, Saturday at Golden State

Turning up the defensive heat kept the Orlando Magic cruising along with a 2-1 week during which they held opponents to 90.7 points per game and put up a league-best 90.8 defensive rating. For the season, Orlando is fifth in defensive rating at 104.9. It’s the 26th-ranked 104.8 offensive rating that keeps the Magic bobbing in the middle of the NBA pool.

Nikola Vucevic had a variety of big games, getting 24 rebounds in the win over the Nets before going for 29 points in the blowout of the Wizards. He found a happy medium as the Magic opened a five-game Western swing at Phoenix with 18 points and 13 boards. Vucevic averaged 19.3 points, 15.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.3 steals in 30.5 minutes a night, shooting 43.4 percent.
