3. Boston Celtics

More than any other team on this list, the Boston Celtics do not need to worry about the starting point guard position. Replacing Kyrie Irving with Kemba Walker has been a godsend for this team, as the Celtics appear to be rejuvenated, playing and acting much more like the first few teams Brad Stevens coached.

The depth behind Walker is questionable, though, especially if Stevens prefers to play defensive stalwart Marcus Smart at shooting guard instead of point guard.

The first backup at the position is Brad Wanamaker, a name many outside of Boston wouldn’t even know. The second-year guard is averaging 6.4 points and 2.7 assists per game off the bench, which is decent enough. It’s nowhere near the caliber Collison would bring, though.

Behind Wanamaker is the enigmatic rookie Carsen Edwards out of Purdue. The 33rd overall pick has shown some flashes of what made him a star with the Boilermakers, but he has mostly struggled, scoring just 3.3 points per game and averaging less than an assist per contest.

Tremont Waters, another rookie, has made just five appearances as he’s been developing in the G League on a two-way contract.

Bringing in Darren Collison would shore up the point guard depth and add another veteran presence to a still-young locker room.
