It should come as no surprise that this franchise is ready to part ways with many of its veteran players in an attempt to accelerate their rebuilding process. The sting of losing Kyrie Irving and LeBron James in consecutive seasons is proving to have a long-lasting impact.
Remaining on the roster is the final member of the original big three, Kevin Love. Though fans were hopeful his star presence could at least keep the organization competitive during their rebuilding years, it’s clear this partnership is coming to an end.
Now, the Cavs look to clean shop and buckle down on their young core. Cleveland has done a decent job of drafting talented players in the last two seasons but is struggling to fit the pieces of the puzzle.
Collin Sexton has proven to be a crafty scorer, but is a questionable fit in the starting lineup alongside Darius Garland. Meanwhile, Cedi Osman has been wildly inconsistent and injuries to Kevin Porter Jr. and Dylan Windler have halted any hopes of progression on that front.
As the deadline approaches, we can expect the Cavaliers to begin making trades and attempting to form an identity. A deal involving one of these three players will help the team in this process.
