Milwaukee Bucks remain atop NBA Power Rankings by taking care of business
By Phil Watson
Last week: Won at Chicago 123-102, beat Minnesota 106-104, beat San Antonio 127-118
This week: Monday at San Antonio, Wednesday at Golden State, Friday at Sacramento, Saturday at Portland
The Milwaukee Bucks have strung together five wins in a row after a 3-0 week as they prepare to head first south and then west for a four-game road trip this week. Milwaukee is 14-3 on the road this season and, should the Bucks manage to sweep the trip, would be on pace for a 72-win season, a plateau reached just twice in NBA history.
Does that matter in the overall scheme of things? Not really. After the Warriors chased the single-season victory record in 2015-16 and got it with 73 before blowing a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals, there is a bit (OK, a great deal) of skepticism from fans and analysts over jeopardizing a playoff run by expending too much juice chasing a regular-season record.
Giannis Antetokounmpo showed little effect from missing two games with a sore back, coming back last week to average 29.0 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists in just 29.3 minutes per game. shooting 58.3 percent overall while canning 7-of-17 from 3-point range. The reigning MVP scored 32 points in 29 minutes in Saturday’s win over the Spurs, going 15-for-18 from the line.
